SUCCESSFUL 3D PILOT PROJECT

SUCCESSFUL 3D PILOT PROJECT

During the past year we have participated with 27 other companies and organizations in the pilot project regarding the 3D printing of spare parts. The project was launched by the Innovation Quarter, RDM Maker Space and the Port of Rotterdam. Lots of new and interesting experiences were gained, 3D printing proved to be a technology with lots of potential in the maritime industry.

During the project, we focused on printing high quality valve seats. The project gave us lots of new insights and knowledge. The most important conclusion regarding our company is that the cost and production time must be reduced to improve the attractiveness of the spare part. But many new opportunities lay ahead of us.

Last Thursday, the 3D Printing Conference took place in Rotterdam, during this conference the results of the pilot project were presented. We also reflected on the opportunities which have been identified and which we would like to evaluate in a fieldlab during phase 2.
